Text Search

Searching for Cars and Motors via the general text search works the same way as for any other article. If you enter the word Porsche in the search field you will see results of pages that have both the word Porsche in any free text areas and as a property value.

See Help:Searching for more information.

Searching for Specific Car and Motor Property Values

Browsing Search (Articles)

One of the easiest ways to begin searching for specific car or motor data is to use the property browsing feature. There are several ways to access this feature; the simplest being to use the Browse Cars, Browse Motors, or the Browse all Properties links on the Starting Grid.

Clicking on the Browse Cars or Browse Motors links will take you to a page that lists all articles under that category that looks something like this:
Browsing Cars
Clicking on a name in this list will take you to the article for that car or motor where you will see an information box on the right-hand side of the page that looks something like this:
Info Box
Clicking on the search icon File:Search_icon.png next to any property value will take you to a page that displays all articles with that value, or in the case of numeric values, all values that match or are a close match to the selected property value.
Browse/Search Results
Finally, clicking on the browse icon File:Browse_icon.png next to one of the search results will take you to the Fact Box for that article that will look similar to this:
Browse/Search Results

You can browse and search for property values in much the same way you can from the main article's information box with the notable exception of values that have separate articles about them. These special values have the File:Browse_icon.png, which will take you to the article that can describe them in detail. (Note: In standard MediaWiki fashion, Red titles are articles that haven't been written yet.)

Browsing Search (Properties)

Browsing and searching properties works much the same as browsing articles. Click the Browse all properties on the main page. (Starting Grid) This action will display a list of all the properties defined in the wiki that looks something like this:
Property List

This list contains all property names in the wiki, including system properties such as Allows value. Unless you are the curious type you can ignore these. What you are probably after are properties such as Make, Model, Wheelbase, etc... (Note: The value displayed in parenthesis after the property name is the number of pages where the property appears with a valid value.)

Clicking on any property name will display all the articles that contain a valid value for that property. For example: Clicking on Chassis Length will display a page with all the articles that contain a valid value for that property name.
Search Results
You can browse this list for the value you are looking for and then click the search icon File:Search_icon.png to display a list of pages that contain that value. Properties that contain numeric values execute a special "fuzzy search" that first returns exact value matches and then returns values that are close to the one you selected.

This can be a great help if you need to find something with dimensions that are "close enough" to the value you need for your project.

Named Property Search

You can also search for properties by name and value. Click on the Special pages link in the toolbox on the left side of the window.
Toolbox
Scroll to the bottom of the Special pages page to the Semantic MediaWiki section and click on Search by property. This will load a page that has two input boxes: one for the property name, and one for the value you want to search for. Enter a property name and a property and click on the Find results button.
Property Search
If any articles contain a property with the value you entered a results page will be displayed just as if you had performed a browsing search as described above.
Search Results
You can either click on the article name to view the content associated with the article, or click the browse icon File:Browse_icon.png to view the article's Fact Box.

Exact Matches vs Fuzzy Searches

When you search for property that has a string value using the methods described above SC Dimensions will return only those pages that have an exact match. For example: Searching for cars that have the RX-42B motor installed by entering the property name Motor Model and the value RX-42B will return results that match "RX-42B" exactly.
Exact Matches
(You can override this functionality by using advanced search feature described here. Searching for a property with a numeric value will result in a fuzzy search, returning values that match or are close to the value you are searching for.
