Description

SCX has reproduced the Corvette C6R, the flagship of the Corvette Racing Team and winner of the GT1 category in last year’s Le Mans 24 Hours. The C6R is characterized by its sporty, aggressive and aerodynamic lines. In terms of decoration Chevrolet have given the car a sober look, largely by using only two colors: a practically uniform yellow for the bodywork, with black reserved for highlighting specific details (around the headlights, the spectacular rear-mounted spoiler, air intakes in the front bumper, side windows and wing mirrors and the front spoiler mounted below the bumper). The model features numerous air intakes, particularly wide on the hood, as required by the demands placed on the real car in high speed endurance racing events, such as the Le Mans 24 Hours. The front section of the vehicle features some highly attractive headlights and a front spoiler which adds to the sportiness and aggressiveness of the nose at the same time as helping to enhance the vehicle’s aerodynamics. Also shown are the four screws located on the bonnet of the original car A striking aspect of the side view of the C6R are the exhaust pipes built into the skirts and the car’s low center of gravity, which can also be seen, with its bodywork almost flush with the ground, thanks to the competition suspension.

The multi-radius wheels and wide, low-profile tires also help to emphasize the model’s sporty character. For the interior SCX has included a platform made up of two rectangular rails, forming the chassis of the Chevrolet car. Care has also been taken with the details of the – single – driver (crash helmet, overalls and gloves). The driver’s crash helmet is a replica of the one worn by Jan Magnussen, one of the team members, during the competition.

At the back, the vehicle’s enormous rear spoiler catches the eye, reinforcing the car’s aerodynamics, and also the large rear window, revealing the reinforcing bars that make up the tubular platform of the chassis. Also check out the round, double, rear lights, one of the distinctive, and classic, design features of the mythical Chevrolet Corvette.

Driving Impressions

A model with highly acceptable bodywork measurements for 1:32, fairly light and with a low centre of gravity, sitting on a completely flat chassis with contours which are very competitive. All this promises high-performance reactions for this classic, increasingly proven SCX format. The pivoting cradle breaks up the rigidity of the frame, making it surprisingly flexible.

A light run-in to tune up the gearing and the bearings, fit the braids flat and with even lengths and lubricate all the moving parts, and the car is ready to go out onto the track. Run it at low torque initially, gradually increasing the racing rhythm. The first impression is confirmed as soon as it is placed on the track.

The Corvette overtakes with precision thanks to its length, a cut-off rear end with no overhang and a wheeltrackwhich gives adequate support on wide bends. Performance on the curves of a speed circuit is very comfortable, and it negotiates tight bends without too many problems. Good centring on the straight and ease of braking cap a performance that should give some great afternoons of racing. A stable, comfortable drive are the main strengths of a model which is perfect for driving and tuning.
